Fidelity Ladies v Welland Valley Ladies

After heavy rain the day before, and more of the same overnight, and still raining that morning, we were lucky that the Welland Valley pitch drains very well. A bit soft under foot as you would expect but luckily, there was no standing water anywhere. Rain stopped just before kickoff, so game on for us. No other games in the ladies div2 league were able to be played, so we were very fortunate.
We had a full squad with a full compliment of subs, all keen to play. Unfortunately, Welland Valley were not able to play 11 players but we were happy that we got to play football as our ladies had been looking forward to playing. To Welland Valleys credit, they battled hard and did actually play a good game making us work hard for any goal that we got.
Our Maisie scored our first with a power shot from 25 yards out. Alicia scored our 2nd from the corner of the 18 yard box, not quite getting hold of it, but enough to get past the keeper and rolled in. Our 3rd from Kayleigh, the goal of the day, came from a corner kick which she headed beautifully into the top left corner.

Welland Valley must have found some extra energy from somewhere at half time because they came out playing even better and even attacked our goal a few times. We scored once more with Molly taking on the keeper 1v1 and placing the ball wide of the keeper, just inside the post. 4-0
Welland got a lucky break 5 minutes from the end, intercepting a pass out from our goal giving them the opportunity to have a shot at goal from 25 yards out, which they did successfully, wide of our diving keeper.
Although a bit of an unbalanced game, we saw some good football from both teams. Well played ladies!!
